Are you an email hoarder?

Posted on January 23, 2012 by Diana Brandmeyer

My hand is fluttering in the air. I am an email hoarder. In the past I have found blogs or shopping sites that interest me and I subscribed.

This last month I’ve been unsubscribing. I realized I was spending not just minutes deleting email. Some times it was five minutes or more.

I still have many lists to to release from my inbox. It’s hard. Sometimes I want to know what I can cook gluten free for dinner or what exciting crafting offer Michaels is offering. And what if I want to live social in another city?

I should delete them right away. But I can’t. I put a star and color code it as to do or important and then I forget about them. It feels better to me to have them in my inbox just in case I get a chance to fly to Florida tomorrow and shop at Kohls with my secret % off code.

So I ask, are you an email hoarder too? Should we start a club or a twelve-step program?

I am terrible with hoarding emails. I have everything I get on a regular basis set up with a rule. Some go to my inbox with a label so I can just hit archive when I have read them. Others, like sale ads, get marked as read and are immediately archived so they are there if I need them, but no clogging up my inbox. (I do tend to check this folder a few times a day though–you never know when there is a sale that is just too good to resist!) 🙂

*raises* hand. Yeah, I'm one, too. And it's gotten worse since I get so many WANA-related emails these days. I'm buried in email! Help.

Somehow I don't feel right unless the message count in my in-box is in the triple digits, and I can't even claim to try to organize them, but if I ever need something…
Nice post, Diana. I'm a fellow #WANA112 student, and in the interest of building relationships, I'm nominating you for The Versatile Blogger Award. Check out my blog post (http://bit.ly/A6lup4) to see the award and some instructions to make it go.
    Peace,

Oh Boy, do I hoard email.. but then hoarding is in my nature. However, this year one of my NYR was to clear most of those in my yahoo email and keep it down! It took me nearly an hour to clear, as I still wanted to save certain ones, and I am still finding it a fight to keep it down. My hotmail one? .. I won't go there… too frightening for words! Good topic Diana!

Yeah, a 12 step program would be great… but no time to join since I'm busy hoarding emails, among other things. Ha.

What I need to do is create a separate account for subscribing to things. But I'm afraid I'll stop getting any mail in my regular account.

Bahhhaaa..This post has my name written all over it, as in GUILTY, GUILTY. I take pride in being tidy in all aspects of my live, and yet I'm an email disaster area. Just wondering, is there even a cure for such madness?

I am the worst email hoarder. I even organize my email hoarding with gmail labels.

I desperately need a 12 step program! I've been going through and cleaning out emails lately, and it's pathetic how many I have. Damn gmail for having so much memory!
